Trozos de Pensamientos desde Alcalá de Henares
¿Cuál es el sentido de practicar filosofía hoy en día? ¿Y las humanidades en general? Mirando por la ventana de mi habitación en Residencia San Ildefonso – la foto arriba – al Patio de Filósofos del antiguo edificio de la Universidad de Alcalá de Henares (estoy aquí de nuevo enseñando dentro del programa Erasmus plus) pensé, utilizando los critierios de la filosofía práctica, lo siguiente:
Según los pensadores del Renacimiento, las humanidades ayudan a la colaboración intercultural y a la mutua comprensión entre las tradiciones y culturas; parece que eso fue el ambiente intelectual que ocurrió a solamente unos metros de mi lugar, el Patio Trilingüe, en el que, cuatrocientos años atrás, se encontraron, vivían y colaboraban los hablantes de tres idiomas (latín, griego y hebreo) para estudiar aquí.
Según los criterios de los pensadores de Ilustración, la educación humanística puede darnos mucha satisfación individual Y mucho beneficio social sin mucho riesgo y mínimas consequencias negativas.
Según los criterios económicos contemporáneos, el costo de las humanidades es incomparablemente más bajo que el de otras disciplinas. No se necesitan costosos edificios, ni laboratorios y ni experimentos, solo libros en las bibiotecas (casi siempre gratis) o textos en pdf (casi siempre gratis también); por supuesto, se necesitan también los lectores que tengan la habilidad de disfrutar de la sustancia de esos textos y de transmitir su sentido educativo y cultural durante el proceso del enseñar a los estudiantes y de promover la cultura. Parece que eso necesita más soporte institucional, y Erasmus sirve como un buen ejemplo para otras instituciones.

Chris Skowroński (Opole University/Berlin Practical Philosophy International Forum) talks to Sami Pihlström (Faculty of Theology, University of Helsinki) on the occasion of the Berlin Forum’s international conference they both co-organize at the Finnland Institut in Berlin (July 10-13, 2017). The general title of the conference is “Pragmatist Kant” and its main idea is to discuss various aspects of the pragmatist philosophy and the Kantian philosophy as seen from the viewpoint of their mutual interrelationships. Professor Sami Pihlström is talking about his own contribution to the project. He discusses his ideas that are present in his paper/speech, entitled “Jamesian Pragmatism, Rortyan Ironism, and Kantian Antitheodicy.” He briefly explains some practical aspects of his theoretical investigations on religion, ethics, evil, suffering, and others. For example, one can detect a practical dimension of a philosophical discussion on suffering while looking for its possible justification. More generally, some people can ask: is there any deeper sense in suffering? Various philosophies provide us with different answers to this question. Both pragmatism and Kantianism do not see any cosmic, divine, and universal justification of evil and suffering.
Sami Pihlström is a professor of philosophy of religion; his recent book, co-authored with Sari Kivistö, is entitled Kantian Antitheodicy: Philosophical and Literary Varieties. In his numerous books and papers he investigates the problems of metaphysics and religion in the philosophical tradition of American pragmatism, and its relationships with the philosophy of I. Kant and the Kantian tradition in general.
Biblioteca Argentina de Witold Gombrowicz
Witold Gombrowicz, el famoso escritor polaco, vivió en Argentina durante 23 años (1939-1952). Su vida nómada estuvo llena de aventuras intelectuales con los escritores argentinos y quizá por eso la presencia de sus ideas parece mayor allí en los últimos años.
En 2014 tuvo lugar el I Congreso internacional dedicado a su obra, y la ocasión formal del evento fue el 75 aniversario de su llegada en Argentina. Las ponencias fueron grabadas en Youtube y cada uno puede verlas gratis. Además, se han coleccionado gran parte de los textos en español – tanto los escritos por él como los que comentan sus ideas – y se ha colocado en la página de web que se llama Biblioteca y Audiovideobiblioteca de Witold Gombrowicz. Parece ser el fondo más rico de todos los materiales de mismo Gombrowicz y sobre Gombrowicz que existen en la lengua cervantina.

Chris Skowronski and Sami Pihlstrom on Pragmatist Kant:
American and European Values were a series of ten conferences on the contemporary philosophy that were held annually since 2004 at the Institute of Philosophy of Opole University, Poland (detailed history of the events here). The main creators of the whole idea were professor John Lachs, Vanderbilt University, Nashville, USA and Dr. Chris Skowronski, Opole University, Opole, Poland. In 2015 the conference series was extended into a Berlin edition.
